Incubating and funding businesses opportunities on The Island
The kickstart phenomenon, also know as crowd-funding, is taking the online world by storm. With over 500 websites, the most famous being kickstarter.com, more and more entrepreneurs, innovators, designers, authors, filmmakers and other creative folk are turning to crowd-funding.
The principles are simple, the project owner pitches to the online community and attempts to gain the minimum amount of cash they need to bring their product or service to market. If enough of the community pledge to buy their product or service then the cash changes hands, the project owner cracks on with bringing the product to market and the community then take delivery of the products that they ordered. In many ways, you are pre-ordering the product or service.
It has proven an extremely effective method of funding projects with both the consumers and project owners benefiting.
The Sheppey Kickstart Programme goes much further than any of the online offerings in that the whole process is managed by local business guru’s with proven track records in their trades. The Island’s most innovative and creative entrepreneurs will be invited along to “The Hub’ where they will pitch to the panel. Only the best, most credible ideas will go into the fine tuning stages ready to reveal to The Island’s residents.
The programme aims to create around 30-50 new business opportunities on The Island each year.
